FAQ about GATE Examination

GATE examination has 23 paper of GATE (graduate aptitude test in engineering) examination which is annually conducted by a group of IIT’s and IISc under MHRD of Gov of India.

Advantage of having a good GATE Score in GATE exam-

·        GATE is a gate way to enter in the world of Engineering for Masters (PhD, M.Tech, ME and MS) from prestigious institute like IIT’s, IISc, IIST, DIAT and others in India. A GATE score of around 600 plus and around 45 plus marks is required to get admission in these institutes. GATE score required for different courses also depends on the category of students.

·        A valid GATE Score is must in many of Government organizations (like ONGC, BHEL, NAL,HAL, DRDO, ADA and others) for different post such as JRF, SRF, Scientist,Project Engineer and others.

·        GATE Score also helps students in getting a good job in private organization during campus placement or off-campus as it is proof of sound academic credentials.

·        GATE Score is a must for many of reputed engineering colleges in India.

·        Many of world’s top university recognizes GATE score card and gives preference to such students who are qualified in GATE exam and having good score.

When GATE Examination is conducted-

·        In general GATE Exam happens in Feb 1st week of every year

Eligibility for GATE Aerospace Examination-

·        Bachelor’s degree holders in Engineering/Technology (4 years after 10+2 or 3 years after Diploma in Engineering/Technology) and those who are in the final year of such programs.

·        Bachelor’s degree holders of Four-year program in Science (BS) and those who are in the final year of such programs.

·        Master’s degree holders in any branch of Science/ Mathematics/ Statistics/Computer Applications or equivalent and those who are in the final year of such programs.

·        Holders of Four-year Integrated Master’s degree(Post-B.Sc.) in Engineering/Technology and those in the second or higher year of such programs.

·        Holders of Five-year Integrated Master’s degree or Dual Degree in Engineering /Technology and those in the fourth or higher year of such programs.

·        Holders of Five-year integrated M.Sc. or Five year integrated B.Sc. /M.Sc. degree and those in the final year of such programs.

·        Candidates with qualifications obtained through examinations conducted by professional societies recognized by UPSC/AICTE as equivalent to BE/B.Tech. Those who have completed section A of AMIE or AeSI or equivalent of such professional courses is also eligible.

Validity of GATE Score-

·        Validity of GATE score is for three years.

GATE Aerospace Syllabus-

·        GATE Syllabus is consist of the core subjects of four years of bachelor of Engineering.

·      It also has Engineering mathematics and General Aptitude in syllabus.

GATE Question paper-

·        GATE question paper is divided in three different sections

o  Engineering Mathematics (around 15 marks).

o  Core Subjects (around 70 marks)

o  General Aptitude- (around 15 marks)

GATE Question type-

·    GATE Question paper will have two kinds of problems; MCQ’s and fill in the blanks.

·        Question paper will have short problems of 1 marks as well as advanced problems of two marks.

·        MCQ’s problem carries negative marking (1/3 for 1 mark problem and 2/3 for 2 mark problems) and fill in the problems does not carry any negative marking.

GATE cut off-

·        Cut off marks for GATE in general around 25-35 for GATE 2017.

How to prepare for GATE exam-

·        As GATE examination is a knowledge test of core Engineering Subjects, a person who is aspirant of GATE should focus on basics and keep learning well all the subjects of GATE Examination.

·        GATE aspirant can choose either way of self-preparation or professional guidance based on own ability and command over core subjects.

·        GATE students need to practice hard and revise well all the subjects of syllabus again and again.
